About Troop 423
Troop 423 was first chartered in 1955, and has continued to serve the Old Bethpage and Plainview area for over 50 years.
We are a non-denominational troop whose members represent the wide diversity of our community and we encourage our scouts to learn from and respect that diversity.
We meet every Thursday night from 7:30 until 9:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's Gymnasium located at 99 Central Park Road in Plainview, NY. Good Shepherd is our sponsoring organization, providing us with a wonderful meeting place, and storage facilities for our equipment.
We follow general BSA guidelines in regards to how a troop is run. The troop is boy-led, giving boys the opportunity to get hands on leadership experience as they transition through the program.
The adult leadership is to provide guidence and assist the boys in running their program.
Leadership
As a boy-led troop there are two sets of leadership. The Adult leadership consists of the ScoutMaster, his Assistant Scoutmasters and Junior Assistant ScoutMaster. The boy leadership includes the Senior Patrol Leader, his Assistants, patrol leaders for each of the patrols and an assistant patrol leader for each patrol.
Committee
The Committee is made up of positions such as treasurer, fundraising, advancement, health & safety & merit badges to assist in the running of the Troop.
